While I was at my parents house last week rooting through old boxes, I happened upon one that was full of photographic treasures. I apologize for the massive photo post but I just couldn’t help myself.

In a few of these photos there are people holding/using/photographing with manual film cameras which makes me happy because I like pictures of people with cameras. But what it reminded me of was a time when my dad took a trip out to Arizona a few years ago and wanted to borrow a camera to take with him. By this time, digital had already peaked its head through the door but I had not made the transition yet and was still shooting with my first film camera, the Nikon FM10. Hesitant about whether or not he’d know how to use it since digital would’ve been much easier for him to not really have to think about how to use it, I had assumed he’d have no idea how to manually focus let alone line the stick with the ball in the viewfinder of the FM10. Thought he might’ve thunk it took too much effort. When I started to explain how to use it he looked at me and said something along the lines of “what are you doing…this is the only kind of camera that I ever used to shoot with so I know exactly how to use it.” Then I was like duh…what I was shooting with was considered “old”…and old was what was normal to him. In one of these photos, and others that I did not post, he has his manual camera in his hand/around his neck which reminded me of the story. I really liked seeing that.

Hope you enjoy these few favorites of mine. And yes, I know I pretty much look like I was just a lump of a baby with too much hair and no emotion.

i love looking through old family photos. your story reminds me of when my dad wanted to transition from film to digital….as easy as digital is, he said that it took a lot of the fun out of shooting for him. he had an old minolta that he gave to me when i started shooting. haha. he always tries to steal it back :)

haha…that’s funny that he always tries to steal it back. Jeff’s dad gave him his old minolta too…super heavy but shoots so good. Doesn’t try to steal it back though :)
