BENT MOUNTAIN & ROANOKE, VA — June 28, 2009

We went to AmRhein Wine Cellars and Valhalla Vineyards for some wine tasting on Sunday and had a great time. The roads to both vineyards required driving up and around and around and around and around some mountains which in my humble opinion is a horrible variable in the equation of alcohol and motion sickness but everyone made it out okay. Jeff and I had considered having our ceremony and reception at Valhalla at one point and though it has a gorgeous view and lovely atmosphere, we decided that guests probably wouldn’t appreciate having to drive back down the steep winding roads at night. If you’re ever in the area and would like a relaxing afternoon picnic with friends, Valhalla lets you bring your own food and you can dine on their premises while enjoying their wine. I actually preferred the wine at AmRhein but both places are nice and airy and relaxing.
