I got chills the first time I watched this video. And then after the fifth time I may or may not have gotten teary-eyed. It’s beautiful.

Succulent Plants
Our friend Crystal who authors a super fun blog called Meet Miss Jones made a post titled DIY Succulent Planter that Jeff came across and wanted to make. We’ve been talking about getting a plant ever since we got married, you know, to add some responsibility to our lives. But the responsibility monster in us said “hey, you guys don’t get nearly enough sunlight in your apartment to properly raise a plant. Maybe you should wait. ‘Cause that’d just be botanically cruel.” But now that we have natural-light-galore, there really is no excuse.
So let me introduce you to our succulent children, from left to right: Patty; Nigel and Frasier (or Frasier and Nigel, I get them mixed up), Edwardo, Jr., II; and Ramona. There were so many other awesome succulent plants that we found that were the neatest shapes but most of them were larger and we wanted to start with little baby plants and watch them grow.
Anywho, Crystal’s blog post was about making a succulent planter as a gift which I think is a totally fun idea. Check out her site for lots of fun links and delicious-looking recipes that I keep meaning to try :)
P.S. our vase is actually a light fixture. It’s surprisingly hard to find a white vase that isn’t the size of a trash can.
Smith Mountain Lake
Second day at my new job and I spent the last couple hours of work on a boat ride at the lake. Not working. With my awesome coworkers. I think I could get used to this :) More iphone snapshots on flickr.
Jones Soda
Five years ago I had two of my images selected to be on Jones Soda bottle labels and was reminded of this when Sabrena, a friend from college and fellow photographer mentioned me in her blog post about it yesterday. Sabrena blogs about all things wedding related in addition to her photography, and yesterday’s Take A Look post was about customized photo labels for special events such as weddings, rehearsal dinners, favors, and showers (they’re also great for graduation/birthday parties, family reunions, etc.). The likelihood of having one of your images selected to be used is quite slim as there are a gazillion submissions so to find out that both of mine were picked was pretty freaking awesome. I didn’t get the news that mine were selected until months later when I received two plump envelopes full of labels that had clearly been through the postal service a few times since I had moved between the time I made the submissions and the time they were selected and printed…but they eventually found their way to my new home. And I will always make sure to fill out mail forwarding forms because of this.
We never found my Green Apple label but my friend Laurie was in a Starbucks in Florida one day and spotted my picture on a bottle of Black Cherry. She didn’t even know to look for it but immediately recognized the image and was kind enough to make the purchase and send it to me. It was pretty exciting to know that one of my bottles was in major coffee shop, many states away, and we had family members on a scavenger hunt checking every retail store and gas station in their area which was pretty fun. So yeah…if you have any special events coming up, you can make your own custom labels at myjones.com. Otherwise, you should totally submit your own images to Jones Soda. The more random the image, the better.
A Pictorial Guide To Avoiding Camera Loss
Andrew McDonald, an “author, writer, and biped from Melbourne, Australia,” came up with an idea to keep some photos on your camera with contact info in case you misplace it and the person who found it is gracious enough to try to return it to you.
