The airline set us up in a hotel in Casablanca after an hour of not knowing what was going on when a man greeted us asking if we were who we were while pointing to our names on a sheet of paper. He led us to the front of the customs line, not explaining where we were going, why our names were on a list or really, who he was. In hindsight, it was totally stupid of us to not ask questions and just follow someone we didn’t know in a foreign country who spoke a language I can only describe as beautiful squiggles. But we were young. And infinite.

We giggled ourselves silly behind closed doors in our Moroccan room, spoke about the hookah pipe from Casablanca that Jeff inherited from his grandfather, who we learned loved that city, and marveled at our view of the Atlantic and how different the air felt on our skin. I can’t believe I only gave this image a passing glance 3.5 years ago but outside of our hotel was where this photo was born.

I actually miss posting to the blog when I can’t but it’s been nice to take a break from the computer for a few days. And since I haven’t had the chance to process any of the photos from our numerous family and friend gatherings yet, I wanted to post a few of us in the car on Christmas Day after not enough sleep and a stomach full of yummy ham biscuits, egg casserole, and pastries (thanks, Aunt Diane!). No one in the North knows what a ham biscuit is. My cousin actually wrote a short story about it. In these photos, we’re on our way to see my family in Lancaster for the weekend. Sheetz gave away free coffee on Christmas Day and as we only stop at Sheetz for pit stops, we were lucky to get some free fuel (caffeine) for ourselves. We love Sheetz. And free coffee.

Welp, we’re back. And we had an amazing time, which leaves us dogg tired. So tired that I don’t even feel motivated to go through and process my photos. And I always want to go through and process my photos. Above are a few of my favorites so far. More from a photojournalistic point of view rather than tourist but that’s probably why I love them. Jeff has been good about getting into his photos right away and has already started posting a few each night on flickr. Feel free to check them out!

Right now I’m torn about how to change my name. I mean, I’ve been Huong Nguyen for 27 years so Huong Anything Else just sounds off key. But I definitely want to take Jeff’s last name…according to facebook I already have, but do I hyphenate, not hyphenate, drop Nguyen completely, make it my middle name, drop my middle name…so many options.

We still can’t really settle in and relax yet. The apartment seriously needs some order brought to it and we have a few minor details to work on for our second reception next weekend. Yes, we’re having another reception. The party’s totally not over yet. My parents are throwing a soiree with 150 of their closest friends in Lancaster, PA and I get to throw on a traditional vietnamese wedding outfit. Eight course meal, here we come!

In a month we’ll be honeymooning in Rome and we’d love some suggestions of things to do and what not to do. I don’t know a lick of Italian but I’ve been trying to learn the little bit I can from iPhone apps and language learning podcasts. So far, nothing has really stuck. But then again, I haven’t really been putting in the time.

This photo was taken at the Peaks of Otter Winery where we went for a wine tasting this past weekend. I love maps. And push pins in maps. And I’m excited to add another push pin to my map.

Jeff and I agree that this is probably one of the best time lapse videos we’ve ever seen. It’s of Christoph Rehage who spent a year on foot (4646 km) through China and it documents his beard. Sounds silly but definitely check it out if you have 5 minutes and 18 seconds to spare as I promise it will remind you of the beauty of people and travel. And beards.

LANCASTER, PA — June 10, 2009

I eat really unhealthy foods when I travel…and this breakfast at Wish You Were Here was certainly no exception. I’m in Pennsylvania for a few days hanging out with the family, meeting up with old friends and getting my wedding gown fitted to be hemmed and bustled. I pretty much enjoy any opportunity I have to put that gown on. I was starting to feel estranged from the blog since I haven’t posted anything since Sunday but I like to think that it’s because I’m too busy with life. Here is a photo of my greasy yummy breakfast.
